Yamaha Brakes

My first ever attempt at refurbishing hydraulic brakes.

Yamaha Brakes
In need of attention...

The front wheel has never spun quite freely. Maybe only after spraying with brake cleaner, for a short time. So after not riding for a few months the wheel was completely blocked. Rolled up sleeves, plucked up courage and took the brakes apart.

This would explain the problem!

Getting both pistons out was not so obvious as once one comes out using the hydraulic fluid, the other can't be moved. Having a setup where only one brake is connected to the master cylinder at a time would make this easier for the future. I eventually got them out though and cleaned up everything.

The piston is a bit chewed up by the pliers but that bit doesn't rub on the seal to should be fine. Bleeding and refilling the system was messy and I did get some fluid on the tank which has ruined the paintwork. Very careless.

My new pistons only arrived later so I am still riding with the old pitted ones, but the wheel spins fine and stops perfectly.

New vs old. Still to be installed.
