Sailing Croatia 2022
The largest group yet for the annual VISC Adriatic week. 13 boats with 65 crew. Light winds but great weather.
The biggest VISC club event yet with 13 boats and 65 people. Drove the 7+ hours to Pirovač on Saturday 22nd October to take over our Elan Impression 45.1. The photos on the brochure made it look like a floating luxury hotel but in reality it was a little bit smaller and of lesser quality, with several things broken. Especially bad for a 2 year old boat.

Day 1 was a non-racing day NW over to the ACI marina in Žut. Light winds from SE. Spent some time just practicing tacks and gybes. Tudor broke the shackle on the jib tack by overtightening the sheet.
Day 2 was supposed to include 2 races but a group were already occupying our chosen course so we headed through the passage north of Kornati out into the open sea and headed down the coast. We had a race around Balun and Borovnik in light winds. We screwed up as we ended up heading to the wrong island at one point. Also sailed too close and lost wind. Came in 8th out of 10.
Pleasant sail 6 miles down to the marina in Piškera after the race.

Day 3 involved a race around come islands in the Kornatski Kanal. We had a very good start and upwind leg. Got overtaken by several boats on the dead run downwind. Second lap was better as the wind had shifted and the final leg was a reach. Came in 5th. Back to Piškera for the night.

Day 4 - motored 2 hours to start of race north of Kakan in the Žirjanski Kanal. Again very little wind and a long dead run down to finish near Šibenik didn't help us. Finished 10th.
Moored up to town harbour in Šibenik for the night.
Day 5. We volunteered to be race officer and set the course. It was the best course yet, a triangle around some small islands SW of Šibenik and the NW wind was around 3bft. Had nice swim and lunch and enjoyed watching the other 12 boats pass by.

Day 6. Tacked NW with good wind and cloudless skies back to Pirovač. Hove-to for grilled fish lunch thanks to Tudor. Very pleasant sailing.
